Do you have a learning disability and want to learn the skills to help you move toward a paid job?  This employment preparation programme could be for you. These are one-year programmes, with time spent between college and a work placement. When it ends, you will have gained skills that will help you to get a paid job, move to further learning or onto a Supported Apprenticeship.

Do you have a learning disability and want to learn the skills to help you move toward a paid job? Join a Supported Internship or Supported Employment course at Adult Education Wolverhampton.

Take those first steps towards your future with skills for employment. You will be inspired to learn about the world of work while you overcome disability. These employment preparation programmes are one year long, with time spent between the classroom and a work placement. When it ends, you will have gained the skills to help you get a paid job, move to further learning, onto an Apprenticeship, or onto further work experience such as volunteering. Alongside the work placement, you will develop your English, Maths, and IT skills as well as learn about the world of work.

Work placements are based on your interests and ambitions, and you will be fully supported to get the most out of the experience. To take part you will need to have the ambition to work. Previous examples of work placements include Wolverhampton Grand Theatre, Wolverhampton Art Gallery, The Arena Theatre, Compton Care, and many more. It is expected that at the end of this course you will move on to your next steps.

For a Supported Internship you will have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and be aged 19 to 24. For a Supported Employment Programme you will be aged 19 or over without an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

Courses will also be planned around:

  • independent living
  • making friends, developing relationships, and getting to know your community
  • good health and wellbeing.

The skills you will learn are:

  • How to communicate well
  • How to look after yourself in class, at home, and in the community
  • How to work as part of a team
  • How to problem solve and tackle unexpected problems
  • How to organise yourself including punctuality and working independently.

Information for Parents and Carers - We offer a rich and motivating environment where students will be supported to achieve their goals. All courses are taught by experienced staff with appropriate support. Get in touch to talk to a member of the team.
