More than 300 prospective students, families and local residents attended Adult Education Wolverhampton's Summer Open Day recently, discovering the wide range of courses, support services and opportunities available to adult learners.
Attendees had the opportunity to explore courses across a broad range of subjects, meet tutors, tour the facilities and speak directly with staff about the learning opportunities available to them. There was particularly strong interest in Digital Skills, Maths, English, and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses.
A number of partner organisations attended to provide information, advice and support, including West Midlands Police, P3, Wolverhampton Voluntary and Community Service, and WV Active, while the summer craft stall and tombola proved popular with visitors, as did entertainment from DJ MS L VIBEZ, singer John Martin and the Wolverhampton Pipe Band.
Further open days are planned throughout the summer, and Councillor Paula Brookfield, the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for Jobs, Skills and Opportunities, said: "Adult Education Wolverhampton's Open Days help people explore their next steps, whether they are looking to progress in education, change careers, gain employment, improve existing skills or simply learn something new.
"As the only provider dedicated solely to adult education in the city, we support people throughout every stage of their learning journey, helping them build confidence, develop new skills and achieve their personal and career goals.
"Learning can be life-changing at any age, helping people gain confidence, develop new skills and open doors to employment, further education and personal growth, and it was wonderful to see so many people attending the Summer Open Day and finding out more about the opportunities available to them.
"I would encourage anyone considering their next step, whether they want to improve their English or maths, develop digital skills, retrain for a new career or simply pursue a new interest, to come along to one of our next open days, and find out how Adult Education Wolverhampton can support them."
The next open days will be held at Adult Education Wolverhampton's City Learning Quarter base at Old Hall Street on Wednesdays 5, 12 and 19 August from 10am-3pm, Monday 24 to Friday 28 August from 10am-3pm, Tuesday 2 September from 10am-7pm, Wednesday 3 September from 10am-3pm and Thursday 4 September from 10am-3pm.
