The Exploring the Community Life Skills group visited Eastside City Park in Birmingham to learn about sustainability. They discovered that it was opened in 2013 and had been the first new city centre park built for more than 130 years. It was built on a brownfield site and has 310 trees to help improve the air quality and provide homes for insects, birds and small mammals. It is easily reached by bus and there are cycle routes and racks to help reduce traffic in the area. The students all agreed that green spaces are really important in built up areas and benefit the local community.
