• You must be aged 19 or over.
• Students should normally have Level 1 Functional Skills English or equivalent skills.
• Suitable for students working at borderline Level 2.
• Willingness to practise English skills independently and in class.
• Good attendance and engagement to support progress.

• Develops skills needed for Level 2 reading, writing and communication.
• Helps students identify strengths and areas for improvement before assessment.
• Supports progression into accredited Level 2 Functional Skills English.
• Improves communication skills for employment, further study and everyday life.

• Through teacher led classroom sessions in a supportive, inclusive environment.
• Practical activities linked to real life and work related contexts.
• Group discussions, presentations and written tasks.
• Regular practise of exam style tasks to build confidence.
• Individual feedback and guidance from the teacher.

• Ongoing informal assessment throughout the course.
