Adult Education Wolverhampton is Helping to Reduce the Digital Divide
Adult Education Wolverhampton has a long history of providing digital training and support to local residents who wish to gain qualifications or to become more aware of how to stay safe online. In the last 2 years, Level 2 and 3 digital students have become volunteers in the classroom, supporting students from across the Service with digital skills to reduce the digital divide.
Xiaolin achieved his Level 3 in 2023 and has been supporting students since then. Ben achieved his Level 2 in June 2025 and is now working towards Level 3. They both consider their support to be a vital part of the learning journey, especially for non-digital students.
This year, they have been supporting students to access their Digital ILPs, their student email accounts, and the virtual learning environment. The support has been offered in the classroom and in the Student Gateway, allowing students to pop in and see them at convenient times.
Faye said, “I was getting really stressed about using the computer in my sewing class; I don’t use one at home, but the support made it easier than I expected. They showed me how to log on, explained why I need a strong password, but more importantly, they had patience and took their time. I can now access my student emails and log on to my digital ILP.”
