National Careers Week is a UK-wide celebration of careers guidance, designed to support people of all ages - including adults who are retraining, returning to work, or looking to take their next step. It’s a chance to explore new possibilities, build confidence, and make informed decisions about your future.

A Week Focused on ‘Your Future’

The theme for National Careers Week 2026 is “Own Your Future” - a message that strongly reflects the journeys of adult students. Careers are no longer linear, and many adults change direction several times throughout their working lives. Whether you are thinking about a new career, progressing in your current role, or developing new skills, this week is about giving you the tools and inspiration to move forward with confidence.

What Adult Students Can Expect

Throughout Careers Week, adult students as well as access to a wide range of activities, there will be a large number of free resources available designed to fit around learning, work, and family commitments. These include:

  • Access to the National Careers Week Virtual Careers Fair, available daily during the week, allowing you to explore different industries at your own pace
  • Up-to-date information on career pathways, qualifications, and progression routes, including non-traditional and flexible options
  • Practical guidance to help you understand how your existing skills and life experience can transfer into new roles

All resources remain available all year round, so you can revisit them whenever it suits you.

Exploring Growing Career Sectors

National Careers Week 2026 places a strong focus on sectors offering real opportunities for adult students, including:

  • Health and social care
  • Technology and digital careers
  • Media and creative industries
  • Green careers and sustainability

Through partnerships with organisations such as Amazing Apprenticeships, Skills Builder, and BBC Bitesize Careers, students can explore over 350 real job case studies, helping you see what different roles involve and how others have successfully changed or progressed in their careers.

Proven Support You Can Trust

National Careers Week has a strong track record of supporting students across the UK. Its Virtual Careers Fairs in recent years have reached over 1 million people, providing inspiration, practical advice, and direct engagement with employers and training providers.

Take the Next Step

Careers Week is an opportunity to pause, reflect, and plan your next move - whatever stage you’re at. Adult Education Wolverhampton encourages all students to get involved, explore the resources available, and take steps towards a future that works for you.
