Entry levels and Level 1 and Level 2 Community Learning Maths courses
What are the Benefits of these courses?
These community learning maths courses help students begin maths qualification after completion of this course.
In our maths courses, you will:
- build confidence in working with numbers and maths
- improve your job prospects or goals to go to university
- gain a maths qualification that is nationally recognized
Improving your maths skills will help you in everyday life and at work. If you want to get a job, get a promotion, or go on to higher level study, then improving your maths skills is a great start.
Fees:
You will not have to pay anything for your maths course or exam fees if you do not already have a GCSE grade 9-4 (or grades A*-C) in this subject.
If you have GCSE Maths grade 4 or higher already, then you need to discuss an alternative course with the AES Maths department, as you have already achieved above the level of the Introductory or Fundamentals Maths courses on offer.
Course requirements
Once you have completed an initial assessment to make sure you are on the right course at the right level. One of our teachers will be in touch with you either by email to discuss the enrolment process.
How will I learn?
This course will be taught with face-to-face lessons. Learning Support is also available for those with learning difficulties/disabilities. Please let us know during the enrolment process if you would like to discuss any support you may need.
How will my progress be monitored and assessed?
You will have regular progress review meetings with your teacher and this will be recorded in your Individual Learning Plan (ILP) to keep you focused and on track with your developments. Once you have covered all of the necessary maths topics, your teacher will start to prepare you for sitting the end of course exam.
What Qualification will I get?
There is no formal qualification at the end of these short courses. You will be working on Maths problems at the level appropriate for your skills e.g. Entry, Level 1, or GCSE. After completion of the initial short course, you will then automatically transfer to do either Functional Skills Entry 3, Functional Skills Level 1, or GCSE in Maths in September 2024. This will be agreed upon with you and discussed with your teacher in regular progress reviews during this initial short course.
Start dates for the classes will be the week commencing 29th January 2024
