Teaching Assistants

Teaching Assistants

We offer a range of courses that will support your journey to become a qualified teaching assistant. The Preparing to Work in a School at Level 1 allows students to increase their knowledge about working in a school and help them to decide whether this is a career path that they would like to follow. Teaching Assistant courses at level 2 and level 3 will provide you with the skills to support teaching and learning in mainstream schools with any age group. Newly appointed staff and volunteers supporting in a school for a minimum of 6 hours per week, will need the Level 2 certificate. Experienced teaching assistants who are employed or who have a confirmed placement in a school for a minimum of 10 hours per week will be offered Level 3.

You will be invited for an informal interview and a skills check of your English and maths levels to make sure you are on the right course at the right level. You will also need a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS).

If you are already employed as a teaching assistant and hold a full level 3 qualification you may be interested in the Level 4 Certificate for the Advanced Practitioner in Schools and Colleges. This course will extend on your current knowledge and practice and enable you to develop skills to coach and mentor colleagues within your school.
