We offer a range of courses that will support your journey to become a qualified teaching assistant. The Preparing to Work in a School at Level 1 allows students to increase their knowledge about working in a school and help them to decide whether this is a career path that they would like to follow. Teaching Assistant courses at level 2 and level 3 will provide you with the skills to support teaching and learning in mainstream schools with any age group. Newly appointed staff and volunteers supporting in a school for a minimum of 6 hours per week, will need the Level 2 certificate. Experienced teaching assistants who are employed or who have a confirmed placement in a school for a minimum of 10 hours per week will be offered Level 3.
You will be invited for an informal interview and a skills check of your English and maths levels to make sure you are on the right course at the right level. You will also need a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS).
If you are already employed as a teaching assistant and hold a full level 3 qualification you may be interested in the Level 4 Certificate for the Advanced Practitioner in Schools and Colleges.
