Information, Advice and Guidance

At Student Services we know how important it is to you to get the right information at the right time to make important decisions about your learning, accessing it and whether it's the right choice for you. You may need to overcome barriers to learning, and need to feel supported in making realistic and well informed choices. Our team can ensure you receive a client-centred, confidential, impartial and accessible service, delivered by professional and experienced staff.

  • you are thinking about changing your life or career
  • keen to make a new start but not sure how
  • want to update old skills or gain new ones
  • find a course
  • get back into work

 

We provide information

Information on learning and work is available in the following the ways:

  • printed materials such as leaflets, course information booklets, learner handbook (visit publications section)

  • our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) www.wton-acl.ac.uk
  • Information Services staff
  • Student Services team 

We provide advice

Further advice is available on a range issues:

  • ways to search for and apply for jobs, e.g. interview skills, CV workshop, completing applications forms, basic IT skills
  • help link your personal interests and skills to your job or career
  • identify appropriate courses
  • give advice on ways to progress in a career
  • identify the skills you may need and refer you to other support (if necessary)
  • give advice about financial support available

We arrange guidance

A guidance interview will give you 'time out' to explore your options, look at yourself objectively and think about the implications of any decisions you are contemplating. It is private, confidential, impartial, and free of charge. Guidance provision is delivered by our qualified Learning Guide and with our partner organisation the National Careers Service.
