Adult Education Wolverhampton promotes learning to all of Wolverhampton’s diverse communities
What is Pride Month?
June is Pride Month to commemorate the Stonewall riots in June 1969.
Campaigners often look to the LGBTQ+ rights movement as an example of how to change perceptions, shift cultural dialogues, and ultimately inspire a large and diverse group of people to take collective action.
During each academic year students at Adult Education Wolverhampton are encouraged to celebrate equality and learn about the diverse world that we live in. Students create art, write about history and learn to accept each-others differences. June is PRIDE month and at Adult Education Wolverhampton we are celebrating PRIDE / LGBTQ+ and look back at one of the activities that inspired students to create and accept and understand each-others differences.
Seema, a drag artist, fashion and textile designer and teacher visited a Life Skills group at the Maltings to discuss and inform students about the LGBTQ+ culture. Students were invited to look through her portfolios of work which showed a wide range of clothing, costumes and jewellery and items that have been showcased at LBGTQ+ events such as ‘PRIDE’.
