Student Spotlight

There is a lot of support in adult education and the atmosphere is accommodating to any person of any background

I attended my primary and secondary education including college in Zimbabwe, Africa

I chose to attend Adult Education after coming to the UK and was unable to go to University because I had been out of education for a while and needed a refresher. As I was freshly from Zimbabwe with slightly a different experience of the education system, Adult Education provided an atmosphere which enabled me to quickly adapt to the new system and the new environment.  I felt comfortable being with some students of the same age with similar experiences. The Lecturers made it easy for students such as myself from a different background to adapt easily and settle in the college environment

I first studied Access to Higher Education in 2005 with subjects including Maths, English, and Psychology, only to name a few. Adult Education enabled me to gain enough credits to enrol into University. I also had the support in filling up the University application form and write up my personal statement which was strong enough to secure me a place with the University of Wolverhampton where I went on to study BA (Hons) Social Care and Social Policy then progressed to study a Masters in Social Work with the University of Birmingham

I am currently working as a Team Leader for Creative Support having chosen to pursue the managerial side of my profession instead of pursuing Social Work as a profession
I have been and will continue to recommend Adult Education to anyone willing to further their education even after achieving less grades to secure a University place. There is a lot of support in adult education and the atmosphere is accommodating to any person of any background
