Join a creative course in 2018!

Entry level creative courses are ideal if you are new to the subject.  We offer classes in painting and drawing, sewing and textiles, fashion and garment making, jewellery making and floristry. Gain a qualification whilst you receive expert tuition in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. At the end of the course the teacher will advise you about progression to other levels and other creative courses at level 1 and 2

Fashion & Garment Making Entry Level

Day & Time: Tuesday 18:30-20:30
Date: Starts 30th January 2018
Length of course: 12 weeks
Cost: £110
Venue: The Maltings

Who should register?
This course is suitable if you are new to fashion and garment making and you would like to learn more.

What will I learn?
This course will provide you with the basic skills to explore fashion design ideas and sample garment–making techniques. You will be able to learn how to use the sewing machine and its’ accessories. You will learn about the elements of design including use of colour, line and texture. Finally you will learn how to construct a simple garment using the techniques learnt. You will gain a qualification at the end of this course.

What should I expect from the class?

  • Expert tuition in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. You will need a sewing kit, to include tape measure, scissors, sewing machine needles, pins and needles, threads and tailor’s chalk. You will need to buy your own patterns, fabrics and threads. Your tutor will advise you of any other equipment or materials you will need such as linings, interlinings, zips and trimmings.
  • Lots of advice and tips
  • At the end of the course the teacher will advise you about progression to other levels and other creative courses.

Floristry Entry Level

Day & Time: Thursday 18:30-20:30
Date: Starts 1st February 2018
Length of course: 12 weeks
Cost: £110 Venue: The Maltings

Who should register?
This course is ideal if you’re interested in going into the floristry industry or you just want to know more about working with flowers.

What will I learn?
Learn to create beautiful arrangements in a professional way. If you’re thinking about working as a florist then this entry level qualification will give you an insight into the skills you will need. You will gain a qualification at the end of this course.

What should I expect from the class?

  • Expert tuition in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. You will need to buy flowers each week; a list will be available from the teacher.
  • Lots of advice and tips
  • At the end of the course the teacher will advise you about progression to other levels and other creative courses.

Jewellery Making Entry Level

Day & Time: Tuesday 18:30-20:30
Date: Starts Tuesday 30th January 2018
Length of course: 12 weeks Cost: £110
Venue: Old Hall Street

Who should register?
This course is suitable if you are new to jewellery making and you would like to learn more.

What will I learn?

This course will provide you with the skills to produce a number of finished jewellery items using precious and non-precious metals. Techniques include saw piercing, soldering, texturing, finishing and polishing. You will also develop design skills. You will gain a qualification at the end of this course.

What should I expect from the class?

  • Expert tuition in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. All tools and equipment used will be provided. Metals can be bought in class when needed - a list of suppliers will be given.

Painting & Drawing Entry Level

Day & Time: Thursday 18:30-20:30
Date: Starts 1st February 2018
Length of course: 12 weeks
Cost: £110 Venue: Old Hall Street

Who should register?
This course is suitable if you are new to painting & drawing and you would like to learn more.

What will I learn?
You will learn basic art skills that may include observational drawing, perspective, scale and proportion and colour theory. You will learn to use various media such as pencil, charcoal, ink, watercolour, oils and acrylics. There are also group discussions about artists’ works and current art exhibitions. There are opportunities for the use of information learning technology to develop your work, research artists and art movements. You will gain a qualification at the end of this course.

What should I expect from the class?

  • Expert tuition in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. You will need a pencil, charcoal, white chalk and an A3 sketch book. Other materials will be discussed as the course progresses. Some basic materials such as paper and art media can be bought on the course from the tutor.

Sewing & Textiles Entry Level

Day & Time: Monday 10:00-12:00
Date: Starts 29th January 2018
Length of course: 12 weeks Cost: £110
Venue: The Maltings

Who should register?
This course is suitable if you are new to sewing and would like to learn more.

What will I learn?
This course will provide you with further skills to explore fashion and textile design ideas to make a selection of items that may include simple garments, accessories or home interior items. You will be able to learn how to use the sewing machine and its’ accessories. You will gain a qualification at the end of this course.

What should I expect from the class?

  • Expert tuition in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. You will need a sewing kit, to include tape measure, scissors, sewing machine needles, pins and needles, threads and tailor’s chalk.
