Interested in becoming a teaching assistant?

Level 2 and 3 Teaching Assistant courses starting September 2017 at Beckminster House, Birches Barn Road, Pennfields


Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools
The course is for newly appointed or volunteer teaching assistants who would like to gain a
recognised qualification. Achieving this qualification will demonstrate your ability to relate to
pupil welfare, care, behaviour and learning.

Course entry requirements
  • Be employed or have a voluntary placement for at least 6 hours per week
  • Satisfactory DBS clearance
  • English skills at Level 2

The Level 3 certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools
The qualifications provide an in-depth understanding of the knowledge and skills required when working directly with children or young people in primary, secondary or special schools.

It covers all aspects of Specialist Support including planning, delivering and reviewing assessment
strategies to support learning alongside the teacher, bilingual and special needs support and
personal development and reflective practice.

Course entry requirements
  • Substantial experience of the teaching assistant role
  • Be employed or have a voluntary placement for at least 10 hours per week
  • Satisfactory DBS clearance
  • English skills at Level 2

Courses have been designed to:
  • Introduce you to a wide range of topics including: children and young people's
  • development, communicating with children and young people, safeguarding, supporting
  • learning, professional relationships
  • Provide the practical skills and knowledge required to work as a teaching assistant in
  • primary, secondary or special schools
  • Provide progression opportunities to either employment or further learning
