Residents Week - Ready, Steady, Learn!

City of Wolverhampton has so much to offer - it is a great place to live, learn and work.


Residents Week from Saturday 1 April to Friday 7 April 2017 has a range of free events to support local people. Join Adult Education on Thursday 6 April for 'Ready, Steady, Learn!' and try something new.

During the day residents will have the chance to sample a menu of free taster activities. If you are looking to change your life Adult Education Wolverhampton can help you to learn new skills.
Making small steps towards taking part in courses can increase your confidence, health and wellbeing, job prospects and enjoyment of life.

Activities

The Italian Job

9.30am - 11.30am | Room 7 
Have fun with language learning and discover your hidden talents. Learn to introduce yourself and break through the language barrier in Italian.

Fun with English & Craft

10.00am - 12.00noon | Rooms 5 & 6
Join us to create a decorative corsage. During the session you will learn to make the corsage and improve your English at the same time. This course is ideal for anyone whose first language is not english.

Shrink Wrap Jewellery

10.00am - 12.00noon | Reception Area
Learn how shrink wrap plastic works and create your own creative and individual jewellery. You will be able to make a pendant, brooch or pair of earrings!

British Sign Language (BSL)

1.00pm - 1.50pm / 2.00pm - 2.50pm | Rooms 5 & 6
Join us for a basic deaf awareness taster. Learn to finger spell and make friends with people from the deaf community.

Introduction to Macro Photography

1.00pm - 3.00pm | Room 4
Macro photography is a technique designed to produce photographs of small items in larger than life size. Join us for an introduction and have a go session.

Creating flower accessories

3.00pm - 5.00pm | Reception Area
Join us for a demo and have a go at creating your own wearable flowers. During the session you will learn to create a simple but effective fashion accessory.

Family Signing

5.00pm - 5.50pm / 6.00pm - 6.50pm | Rooms 5 & 6
Join us with your children for a fun introduction to British Sign Language (BSL). Learn a few simple signs used in every day life and have fun with your children.

Henna painting

5.00pm - 7.00pm | Reception Area
The art of applying henna to the hands and feet is known as Mehndi, it is traditionally used for celebrations. Join us for a Henna painting demonstration and learn some basic techniques.

The Haven

The Haven is a local charity that provides emergency accommodation to women and children suffering domestic violence and homelessness. We have refuges across the City of Wolverhampton and provide 24 hour staff/ helpline support, community outreach, criminal justice support, children’s services, benefits advice, resettlement programmes, and accredited Domestic Violence Awareness training.
