October 10th is World Mental Health Day. "The World Health Organisation recognises World Mental Health Day on 10 October every year as an opportunity to raise "awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilising efforts in support of mental health."

Our “Like Minds” classes are FREE and ideal if you are recovering from stress, anxiety or mild depression.  They can help with issues of confidence and provide respite for carers.  Many previous students on these courses have returned to employment or further training.  You will need a referral from your GP, Nurse or Healthcare Professional.  You can enrol for 5 weeks at a time at the end of which you will need to move to another subject.

Please contact: enquiries@aes.wolverhampton.gov.uk or call: 01902 558180 for a referral form.

Case Study: Derrick Brown

Derrick had worked as a builder for over 27 years and due to massive wear and tear on his back he was left disabled and unable to work.  Derrick became house bound, suffered with depression and had lost all confidence in himself.
He heard  about courses offered at the Adult Education Wolverhampton to support people with mental health issues and after much deliberation joined the ‘Like Minds’ Art and Crafts class.

Derrick said, “I joined the class to help with my health and wellbeing, life is great again I am no longer depressed, I’ve got my life back, made new friends and am excited about what tomorrow holds. The like minds class has opened new doors and new possibilities. Learning is something I hadn’t done for years but it’s now a big part of my life and has given me a positive outlook on life.”
