Certificate in English Language Teaching (CELTA)

If you would like to teach English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), you may either study the CELTA qualification or take part in our Talk English volunteer programme.

Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching for Adults (CELTA)

The Level 5 CELTA course is one of the most popular and desirable English language teaching qualifications world-wide. You do not need to have previous teaching experience but you must have a very good standard of written and spoken English.

On this course you will:

  • learn the principles of effective teaching
  • gain a range of practical teaching skills
  • get valuable hands-on teaching experience

Spaces are limited so the earlier you apply the better. Please contact enquiries@aes.wolverhampton.gov.uk to request a CELTA application pack.

Talk English

Volunteer to teach ESOL or to support ESOL students through our nationally recognised Talk English volunteer training programme.

We have opportunities for Talk English Teachers and Talk English Friends.

Volunteering as a Talk English ESOL teacher is a great opportunity for you to gain experience and develop new skills while making a difference to people’s lives. By volunteering with Talk English you will gain experience of teaching, working as part of a team and working with students from all over the world. You will also develop your communication, presentation and organisational skills. You will receive free training as a Talk English volunteer ESOL teacher.

You will need to be able to demonstrate very good skills in spoken and written English at Level 2 and basic computer skills. You will also need three hours every week to plan and deliver learning activities for Talk English students.

Talk English Friends provide informal support to people learning English on Talk English courses and activities, helping them to access services and get more involved in the wider community.

To prepare you for your role, you will receive information and free training about being a Talk English Friend. You will also be able to access our Talk English activities and website and be part of a network.

To be a Talk English Friend you will need good skills in spoken and written English at Level 1 and basic computer skills. You will also need at least two hours every week to support students on courses or facilitate Talk English activities alongside other Talk English Friends.
